*“To the community, I represent the company. To the company, I represent the community. I must have both of their interests in mind at all times.”

MUI’s DevEx team is product-oriented, aiming to bridge the gap between engineering and design by voicing the needs of users with respect to questions of product design and implementation.

We speak to users through every channel at our disposal: social media, email and content marketing, conferences, podcasts, livestreams, meetups, hackathons, and beyond. More importantly, we listen to our users, and we try our best to understand their needs, problems, and pain points.

We speak on behalf of users internally, voicing the feedback we’ve gathered across all channels to our engineers and designers so they can do the hard work of solving those problems and meeting those needs. Once their work is complete, we close the loop by returning to the community to share the amazing new solutions that our teams have built, and to educate users to help them succeed with the latest offerings.

We believe that the product is the documentation—which is to say, our documentation should be treated as a product unto itself, one which demands constant maintenance and upkeep just like open-source software. Our docs have a disproportionately large impact on our users’ impression of the company and its products, and with products as popular as ours, users expect the highest quality documentation experience that our industry can offer.

Through all of this, we lead with empathy. As the voice of the company both internally and externally, we offer support, reassurance, praise, and gratitude to everyone we encounter, every step of the way.
