Why

It’s reserved time to look at how we are working together as a team and tweak that.

• Allow time for reflection. There is no single better learning source than trying things out and then looking at whether they worked or not.
• Agree on actions. Retrospectives give room to think through several improvement ideas and pick one that all team members commit to.
• Create shared understanding in the team. Everybody sees the world a little bit differently. In retrospect, we can find out how our teammates perceive and interpret events.

Who

We round-robin the moderator of the retrospective. This moderator actively attempts to remain objective and is focused on guiding the conversation forward throughout the meeting.

Duration

From 45 minutes for smaller teams to 60 minutes + async preparation for the largest teams.

1. 4 minutes: Warm-up

2. 6 minutes: Create new notes with your ideas, e.g.

   

   The legend for the background colors

   • Red: what could have gone better
   • Blue is ideas
   • Green what went well
   • Yellow what we should keep doing

3. 10 minutes: Have each team member share his notes

4. 5 minutes: Group related tickets together

5. 3 minutes: Vote on the tickets you would like to see the most discussed

   

6. 10/8/6/4 minutes per topic, based on the number of upvotes, start with the most upvoted groups first
