The DevEx team manages MUI’s social media accounts. We maintain a presence on Twitter and LinkedIn. We handle all scheduling and requests for posts from the company accounts.
MUI engages with the community on social media in two ways:
*to whatever degree you’re comfortable with—nobody should ever feel as though they must talk about work on personal socials.
In both cases, MUI team members should use the #social-media channel on Slack to make requests and collaborate with DevEx on content. This channel is used to keep track of three kinds of requests:
Engineers and designers are encouraged to write rough draft text and assemble their own assets for social media posts to be shared through the company accounts (Twitter and LinkedIn). This significantly speeds up the process of refining the content and scheduling it in a timely manner by the DevEx team. We’re always happy to collaborate on content and assets, as is the Design team.
When you’re ready to make a request, post in the #social-media channel on Slack to add it to the queue. Be sure to include a deadline/timeframe if the request is timely (such as a new release). The DevEx team will let you know when it’s been scheduled.
We encourage MUI team members to build in public and share their work from their personal accounts. When you share your work on your own, please also share it in the #social-media channel on Slack. This will add it to the queue to the reposted by the company accounts, and make it more visible to other team members to engage with.
We have enough active accounts on social media as individuals that we can pump the algorithm and get our work in front of new people by engaging with each others’ posts. This could be simple like, maybe a retweet. Comment to share a few words of encouragement! Again—whatever you’re comfortable with.
